Description

In the scheme used by the Union de Maisons de Champagne (UMC), Monts de Berru is one of 17 areas (“terroirs”) that the Champagne wine region is divided into. These 17 areas are then grouped into four subregions, where Montagne & Val de Reims is one.

The Monts de Berru area is located east of Reims, and was named for the forest-clad hill Mont de Berru which is located between the villages Berru, Cernay-lès-Reims, and Nogent-l’Abbesse. Unlike the hill, the area has a plural s in its name, Monts.

The vast majority of the vineyards in the Monts de Berru (>93%) are situated around the Mont de Berru hill, and are dominated by Chardonnay. There are also vineyards on a slope between Pontfaverger-Moronvilliers and Selles. The rest of the landscape mostly consists of flat agricultural land without vineyards.
