Vitry-en-Perthois is a neighbour to Vitry-le-François, which is the central town if the area, and is located about 3 km from its centre.

The Vitry-en-Perthois commune has a surface of 1749 hectares and has 878 inhabitants (as of 2014), referred to as Pavois and Pavoises.

Vineyards

The vineyards in Vitry-en-Perthois are located in the northwestern part of the commune, in a block that stretches across the border to Vavray-le-Petit. They consist of mild south- to southeast-facing slopes on a low ridge. The vineyards are completely dominated by Chardonnay.

The current vineyard surface in the Vitry-en-Perthois commune is 61.7 hectares (152.5 acres). There are 58.7 ha Chardonnay (95.1%), 1.8 ha Pinot Noir (2.9%), and 1.2 ha Pinot Meunier (1.9%). Numbers from CIVC, as of 2013. In 1997, the vineyard surface was 54 hectares. There are 73 vineyard owners (exploitants) in the commune.
